ACT NOW! Tell Congress: Don’t Cut Health Care To Pay For Billionaire Tax Breaks
Congress may soon give U.S. billionaires huge tax breaks, and pay for it by cutting health care for millions of people.
SEND YOUR MESSAGE TO CONGRESS NOW!
It’s hard to believe, but on May 27th the House of Representatives voted for the biggest cuts to Medicaid in U.S. history, devastating health care for millions of people. Why? To offset huge tax giveaways to billionaires and big corporations.
Congressmen Dan Newhouse (WA-04, Yakima) and Michael Baumgartner (WA-05, Spokane) were the only Congressmembers in Washington to vote FOR cutting Medicaid and Apple Health and FOR tax breaks for billionaires.
Here’s what this vote means for Washingtonians:
- More than 100,000 Washingtonians will lose life saving medication, medical procedures and care.
- Increase our state taxes by shifting billions in Apple Health and Medicaid costs to Washington’s low and middle income families, those that already pay the biggest share in state and local taxes.
- Cause another $127.9 million loss in state and local tax revenue, putting additional pressure on taxpayers.
The bill is now headed to the U.S. Senate and then possibly back to Congressmen Newhouse and Baumgartner for another vote.
Tell your lawmakers, including your state lawmakers, to oppose all cuts to Medicaid and Apple Health. Creating more tax breaks for billionaires shifts more tax responsibility on to low and middle income families, and will impact the health of more than 100,000 Washingtonians.
