ABOUT INVEST IN WASHINGTON NOW

No matter what we look like, where we come from, or how we make a living, most of us work hard for our families. We pay our share of taxes, and yet our communities struggle and we don’t have all the resources we need to build good lives for our families. For too long, a few of the wealthiest individuals in our state have rigged the rules for their own financial interests . It’s time for this to change.

Larry Delaney and an advocate stand outside in Olympia and hold a sign that reads “We Support The Capital Gains Tax.”

We’re a group of educators, working families, and Washingtonians who are building a Washington that works for all of us.

By speaking out and building support for policies like the capital gains tax, IWN is working to end tax cuts for the super rich that come at the expense of our families. We’re remaking the tax code so that it works for all of us.

Thanks to the Capital Gains Tax Washington State is Taking Steps Toward a Fair Tax Code

In 2021, we came together to pass the capital gains tax. With community actions like petitions, letter writing campaigns, and testimony on legislation, we told lawmakers what Washingtonians want: a tax code that works for all of us. In 2022, we defended the capital gains tax in Washington State’s Supreme Court. This huge step forward helps ensure the wealthy pay what they owe, and makes our tax code more equitable.

  • Now that we have the capital gains tax, Washington state will have more than $500 million every year to support childcare, early learning, and public education.
  • At a time when our childcare system is in crisis, the capital gains tax will make it possible for more families to find and afford local options for their children’s care.
  • Because of generations of discriminatory practices like red-lining, too many Black and brown Washingtonians have been forced into lower-income, higher-tax tiers.
  • Those same policies have prevented Black and brown communities from building and passing on generational wealth.
  • The capital gains tax is a critical policy tool to undo some of the racial injustice built into our state tax code.

The capital gains tax is a win for workers and families! Learn more about the capital gains tax, Washington State economy, and more, here.

For too long, a few of the wealthiest individuals in our state have rigged the rules for their own financial interests. As economic inequality continues to widen, both in Washington and across the country, now is the time to make sure that the super wealthy pay what they owe – for our families, communities, and future generations. We know that when we come together, we can build a Washington that works for all of us.

Washington’s working families need reliable childcare. Our students need fully funded schools. Our communities need access to reliable healthcare that we can afford. We advocate for tax justice so our Washington State economy can grow – with more jobs, fair wages, fully-funded community services, and all the tools we need to thrive.

Invest Washington Now is a movement of activists, educators, working families, and everyday Washingtonians advocating for a fair and just tax code. Our work has been made powerful by the thousands of people who have shown up, day after day, to work for a fair tax system.

With families, educators, and workers on our side, we are more motivated and organized than ever before. When we demand the wealthy pay what they truly owe in taxes, everyone in our community can have what they need. Contact IWN here.
